Jenny is admitted to practice law in the states of Washington, New York and Massachusetts and has been practicing law for 25 years. She holds an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School where she was an editor of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law. Jenny received a B.A., cum laude, in English Literature from Yale University. From 1990 to 2006, Jenny practiced law in New York City as an attorney in the tax departments of Dewey, Ballantine LLP, Brown & Wood LLP and Sidley Austin LLP, all top tier law firms specializing in the financial sector. After moving to the Northwest with her husband and daughter in 2006, Jenny focused on international transactions as a member of the tax practice group in the Seattle office of Dorsey & Whitney LLP, a global law firm. Jenny formed her own law practice, Jenny Coates Law, PLLC, in 2011 and quickly found herself busy with local and international clients needing advice on a variety of tax issues and business planning. While Jenny draws on her large firm experience, she particularly enjoys the relationships she is able to build with clients through her own firm. Jenny enjoys learning about people’s lives, businesses and dreams and works closely with them to bring their plans to fruition and address issues that need resolution.
Jenny lives on Bainbridge Island with her husband, Sam, and daughter, Cymbeline. When not practicing law, she studies voice and guitar, sings with the Bainbridge Chorale and enjoys time with her family. She serves on the Board of Arts & Humanities, Bainbridge, an organization dedicated to supporting creativity and the arts on Bainbridge Island. She, herself, is a published poet, with a number of her poems also selected for public readings. Her husband is a professional pianist and a graduate of Juilliard.
